Fall Inspiration

with Robbins Brothers + Leilani Weddings

There are jewelry stores… and then there are engagement ring stores. When shopping for The One (the One Ring, that is), why not head to a retailer that prides themselves on this very specialty?

Leilani Weddings recently teamed up with famed engagement ring specialists, Robbins Brothers, to design an editorial shot on location at one of their stores, as well as blog about fall wedding inspiration!

WEDDING DRESS

With gracefully dipping temperatures and the crisp air of fall, a long-sleeved gown is the perfect way for a bride to dress for the season! Of course, long sleeves do not need to equal stuffy or conservative – especially if you are a bride who is neither. Lace sleeves paired with an open back creates a look that is both softly romantic and subtly sexy. Pearl buttons, like the ones in this photo can also add architectural interest to sheer fabric, drawing the eye and functioning as both a means of garment closure and unexpected jewelry. For the bride who prefers modern elegance and minimalism, a long-sleeved off-shoulder crêpe gown with a body-skimming or A-line silhouette might suit.

WEDDING SUIT

Fall is a wonderful season for grooms, who can wear a three-piece suit without fear of melting like an ice sculpture under the blazing sun. While we believe no one should tell you otherwise if you would love nothing better than to wear a salmon pink suit to your fall wedding (unless that someone is your spouse-to-be, in which case, listen very carefully!), fall usually ushers in a darker palette with rich jewel-tone accents. A velvet bow tie in wine red is a fine choice of the season – paired with a dark tux or suit. For the adventurous in style, consider a velvet suit with satin lapels instead of a bow tie or a more unusual suit color, like deep purple, rust or burnt orange.

COLOR PALETTE

Color palettes lush with reds, burgundies, oranges, golds, mustards, emeralds, rusts, dusky pinks, deep purples, and ambers are perfect for fall, but they are not the only choice. A monochrome palette, while more typical of winter, can also look gorgeous in the fall – particularly in elegant or glamorous venues. Darker hues and rich tones work best with this season – marking a distinct shift from bright summer colors and the pale pastels of spring.

In our Robbins Brothers editorial, we took the color palette all the way – right down to the flowers and wedding cake! The black and white cake by Sam Samm Custom Cakes featured three tiers, with each making use of the color scheme in a fresh new way – solid black on the first tier, stripes on the second, and an abstract painted design on the third.

FLORALS

While you don’t need to deck the halls with sheaves of corn or decorate your reception tables with pumpkins, you can pay homage to fall in other stylish ways. Dried palm leaves or pampas grass are popular choices – whether you decide to go for a predominantly dried floral scheme or simply add a few statement stalks. Gold – a decidedly fall tone, should also not be ignored as a potential color for flowers. Gold flowers or branches add glamor to any arrangement, and are most effective when used thoughtfully and sparingly.

TABLESCAPE

Our fall tablescape for the Robbins Brothers editorial involved few colors but many textured layers, creating the sort of coziness guests crave in chillier weather. Stormy vintage goblets in assorted shades of gray, tapers in black and white burning on mismatched candlesticks, gunmetal flatware, marble print table numbers, playful air plants peppering the table, and black napkins, menus and stoneware plates layered upon a gold beaded charger. Don’t the plates look snug under their blanket? Sometimes, tablescaping is about conveying a mood and eliciting an authentic emotional response tied to memory and desire.
